Ceremonial cloth, geringsing wayang kebo. Tenganan Pageringsingan, Karangasem, Bali, Indonesia. Late 19th - early 20th century

Price on request. 16 1/4" (w) x 80" (l)

Geringsing are worn as ceremonial garments. Their warp threads are left uncut, and are therefore considered immaculate, and for this reason are used as offerings to divinities. They are thought to hold talismanic properties. For a similar example, and more information, see Five Centuries of Indonesian Textiles by Ruth Barnes & Mary Hunt Kahlenberg.
