Sash of Omakipa

Namibia, late 19th - early 20th century

27 inches in length. Sold with mount.

Omakipa are commissioned as gifts to the future bride by the groom. After marriage, he continues to add to his wife’s collection which she wears on feast days to reflect his wealth. This assemblage was attached to a belt and hung vertically behind the legs.
